It took me quite a long time to stop blaming my skin for turning red whenever I used a new skincare product. I used to do the same thing with face mists. As soon as I had a rosacea flare-up or any kind of redness, I’d focus on what might be wrong with my skin or think that maybe I applied the mist the wrong way. Well, my skin is sensitive and I get to be selective. And I am. So I selected the best face mists for rosacea to save you time and frustration. And trust me when I say that there are face mists that actually help with redness, rosacea, and sensitivity.

Looking back, I can’t believe I never thought the problem would be the face mist. I know it sounds like a stupid mistake but I was blinded by other people’s reviews. They can’t be wrong! It must be my skin! But as soon as I landed on a face mist that worked for my rosacea, I made peace with my skin.

Before diving in though, in case you’ve never used a facial mist before, here’s the gist. A face mist is a skincare product in spray form that mainly provides instant hydration. That’s the bare minimum. But there is a variety of face mists and some even rival face serums. If you’re not sure how a face mist can help with rosacea, keep reading to find out.

How Does a Face Mist Help Rosacea?

A face mist can help rosacea by providing instant hydration. That’s important because dryness triggers rosacea and redness. Moreover, most face mists contain soothing ingredients. And that’s helpful when your skin is irritated and red.

Additionally, summer tends to cause extra dryness and dehydration due to heat. During these seasons, a face mist can be of great use when your skin requires a cooling splash of water, so to speak. It can help you manage rosacea flare-ups in summer caused by sun exposure and heat.

And of course, regardless of whether you have rosacea or not, face mists are supplementary products in a holistic skincare routine. And they’re great for using in between your skincare steps.

What to Look for in a Face Mist for Rosacea

Know that facial mists can be divided into two categories. And you first need to decide which one you need. The first option is a basic face mist that can simply hydrate and refresh your skin. So if you’re not dealing with major redness, or you don’t get a lot of flare-ups, you can go for these types of face mists.

The second option is more like treatments. These types of face mists contain calming ingredients like Centella Asiatica, oatmeal, or rosewater. So if you need more than hydration, or if you need your face mist to do something about your rosacea, you can go for these types of mists.

And lastly, regardless of which type of face mist you’re going for, it’s always better to keep an eye on the ingredients of the mist in terms of alcohol and fragrance. These ingredients tend to cause irritation for most rosacea sufferers.

On a side note, face mists are, by default, big in size. I mean they’re not like these tiny little 30ml face serums that are ridiculously expensive and make you act stingy with the application.

So face mists allow you to be generous with your application. And most of them come in mini sizes, making them easy to test out in case you’re not ready to commit.

The Best Face Mists For Rosacea

Find below the best face mists for people with rosacea.

1. La Roche Posay Thermal Spring Water Face Mist

La Roche Posay Thermal Spring Water Face Mist - Best Face Mist For Rosacea

Personally, I think this is the best face mist for rosacea. First of all, it’s very minimal because it’s just thermal spring water. So right off the bat, it’s super hydrating. Second of all, because it’s spring water, it’s rich in minerals. And that does help when your skin looks red and feels hot. And lastly, it has no irritants in it! I use this mostly to prep my skin after cleansing.

But I also use it to calm my skin when it is irritated and red after I apply a certain face mask or after I exfoliate. So if you’re going for an overall hydrating and soothing face mist for rosacea, this is it. Needless to say, La Roche Posay is a dermatologist-recommended brand for anyone with sensitive skin. So you can’t go wrong with it. As you can see from the short video below, the drugstore face mist is super fine!

Ingredients: Thermal water
Formulation: Alcohol-free, fragrance-free, oil-free
Good To Know: Dermatologist-tested, comes in different sizes
Size: 5.2 oz/150 ml

2. Avene Thermal Spring Water

Avene Thermal Spring Water - Best Drugstore Face Mist For Rosacea

This is actually very similar to La Roche Posay’s Spring Water Mist. I’m adding this here because it all comes down to your personal choice between the two brands. But know that they’re pretty much the same both formula-wise and price-wise.

So just like the one above, Avene’s formula is also all spring water formulated without any irritants. And it feels like a gentle breeze on the skin. It helps calm redness, irritation, and itchiness. Plus, it’s great for oily, combination, and acne-prone skin too. You can hydrate dehydrated, oily skin without worrying about congestion or breakouts.

Ingredients: Thermal water
Formulation: Alcohol-free, fragrance-free, oil-free
Good To Know: Vegan, comes in different sizes
Size: 5 oz/150 ml

3. Dr. Jart+ Cicapair Tiger Grass Calming Mist

Dr. Jart+ Cicapair Tiger Grass Calming Mist - Best Facial Mist For Rosacea

If you need to branch out a little and want something more potent with active ingredients and everything, this is gold. But before anything else, know that Dr. Jart has a whole line of products made with Centella Asiatica, which is anti-inflammatory and rich in antioxidants. It’s an ingredient to look for in your skincare products for rosacea to reduce redness. But I digress. If you’ve never used any of those Dr. Jart products before, you can start with this one.

Besides Centella, the Korean face mist packs niacinamide and vitamin B5 to hydrate, help repair the skin barrier, and calm redness at the same time. The only exception where this one wouldn’t work is if you have very sensitive skin and can’t tolerate essential oils. I can only speak for myself but I guess it’s because the way they formulated this is that my skin is fine with the scent of essential oils. But still, skip this one if you don’t like scented mists.

Quick Tip: Use this as a face toner after cleansing your skin. The formula is too rich to just utilize for a couple of spritzes.

Ingredients: Centella Asiatica, niacinamide, vitamin B5
Formulation: Fragrance-free but scented
Size: 1.69 oz/50 ml

4. Herbivore Rose Hibiscus Hydrating Face Mist

Herbivore Rose Hibiscus Hydrating Face Mist

If you’re dealing with acne rosacea, well, a face mist is obviously not the best treatment product. However, when breakouts and blemishes are at stake, I say get all the anti-inflammatories you can find. Because when you have sensitive skin from rosacea, you always think twice before going in with exfoliants or retinoids to fade those blemishes away. Sometimes, you just need to wait it out.

And while waiting, you can calm the look of redness with this rose water face mist. You get all the hydration benefits from aloe, glycerin, and hyaluronic acid. But you also get the anti-bacterial benefits from rose water. Plus, the mist contains hibiscus flower extract, a natural source of alpha-hydroxy acids, to reduce acne rosacea. But don’t worry, the formula is too gentle to irritate. So if you have oily, acne-prone skin and rosacea, this one will leave your skin hydrated, calm, and clear.

Ingredients: Rosewater, hyaluronic acid, hibiscus extract
Formulation: Alcohol-free, fragrance-free but scented
Good To Know: Natural, comes in different sizes, vegan, cruelty-free
Size: 4 oz/120 ml

5. Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe, Herbs and Rosewater

Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe, Herbs and Rosewater

Similarly, this is a great option for people with rosacea and acne. But this happens to be more budget-friendly. The face mist utilizes aloe and rose water to hydrate, calm, and soothe the complexion.

But this one also has anti-bacterial thyme extract. So it’ll help with breakouts and congestion too. The problem is this is not fragrance-free. So it might aggravate redness or even blemishes if your rosacea is currently active and not in remission.

According to the American Academy of Dermatology Association, rosacea usually appears after the age of 30. Mine was no exception. If you’re like me and are annoyed with any kind of line or wrinkle, you can make the most of your face mist by looking for anti-aging ingredients in it. And if you can afford to splurge, make it Barbara Sturm.

The face mist is like an anti-aging face serum in spray form. It packs vitamin B5, hyaluronic acid, glycerin, and aloe to hydrate. But more importantly, it packs the signature ingredient, purslane, which is rich in antioxidants like vitamin C. Plus, it’s got soothing allantoin and prickly pear extract too. 7. Dermalogica Ultracalming Mist

Dermalogica Ultracalming Mist

Just like their UltraCalming Cleanser, the face mist is a godsend for people with sensitive skin, rosacea, and any kind of skin redness. In addition to glycerin to attract water to the skin, the mist packs amazing anti-inflammatories. It’s got oatmeal, aloe, and ginger extract, which is like an instant soother for rosacea skin.

The calming mist does not leave any noticeable feel on the skin like tackiness or greasiness. Reach for this in the morning if you generally wake up to reactive skin. I do. My room gets a lot of light in the morning and I wake up with red skin as if I’ve been sunbathing! For those times, this is just amazing.

Ingredients: Oatmeal, ginger, aloe
Formulation: Alcohol-free, fragrance-free
Good To Know: Cruelty-free, vegan
Size: 6 oz/177 ml

8. Caudalie Grape Water Moisturizing Face Mist

Caudalie Grape Water Moisturizing Face Mist - Best Natural Face Mist For Rosacea

On the flip side of the price spectrum, I can swear by this face mist. This is all natural and all grape water. And in case you don’t know, Caudalie utilizes grapes and their many forms, including a patent formula, because of one thing; it’s rich in resveratrol. Resveratrol is a plant-based ingredient with major anti-aging and brightening benefits. It helps neutralize free radicals caused by sun exposure or pollution.

In sum, it’s the gentlest form of anti-aging. In fact, I mentioned Caudalie’s Resveratrol Serum for its antioxidant benefits in my round-up of face serums for rosacea. Coming back to the face mist, the ultra-fine spray disappears into the skin but leaves your complexion fresh, plump, and redness-free. And hey, I even spray it over my makeup. It actually allows me to refresh my foundation without looking cakey.

Quick Tip: Keep this in your bag in summer when you’re by the pool or the beach. It’ll slap the dullness out of your skin and instantly revitalize your complexion. Also, Caudalie suggests keeping this in the fridge. And I can assure you that doing that helps with puffiness in the morning too.

Ingredients: Organic grape water
Formulation: Alcohol-free, fragrance-free, unscented, oil-free
Good To Know: Organic, comes in different sizes, vegan, fully recyclable packaging
Size: 7.1 oz/200 ml

9. Allies of Skin Molecular Saviour Probiotics Treatment Mist

Allies of Skin Molecular Saviour Probiotics Treatment Mist

If you need a multi-purpose face mist, this one offers just the right amount of skincare and makeup benefits. So you can use it as a facial mist to care for the skin and infuse it with nutrients. But you can also use it over your makeup to refresh your look when you need an instant pick-me-up.

It won’t ruin your makeup. It packs 5% niacinamide to support the skin barrier and brighten the skin. And it’s got probiotics, signal peptides, and a blend of soothers like aloe, and cucumber. It’ll get rid of any skin flushing you have!

Ingredients: Niacinamide, probiotics, amino acids
Formulation: Alcohol-free, fragrance-free
Good To Know: Cruelty-free

So these are the best face mists for rosacea. As I said earlier, I think La Roche Posay is the best one because it’s hydrating, soothing, very minimal, and budget-friendly. There may be other variables in other formulas, like Dr. Jart’s scented mist. So it may not work for everyone. But La Roche is very likely to work for the majority of rosacea sufferers with different rosacea types and different skin types.
