To be honest, I usually don’t care much for clean or natural skincare. For me, the overall formulation, as opposed to one aspect of a product, is what matters. Because I have sensitive skin from rosacea. And I’ve seen products clean as a whistle irritating my skin and products full to the brim with fragrance calming my skin! But when someone blurts out rosacea-friendly, that’s when I lend an ear. That’s why I decided to put Motif Abundance Cleanser to the test in the hopes of finding a new staple for fellow rosacea sufferers looking for a gentle cleanser.

I have oily/combination and breakout-prone skin. And I have consistent redness from my rosacea. My skin is sensitive to pretty much everything. And constantly trying new skincare with heavy active ingredients doesn’t help with sensitivity.

So I know how hard it is to find skincare products that won’t aggravate sensitivity, especially a cleanser which is something you use more frequently than any other product in your routine.

And I’ve been happy with how well Abundance Cleanser works for my skin but I can’t say that I’m surprised. Because Motif Beauty was founded by a female, Devanshi Garg Sareen, who also happens to be a rosacea sufferer herself.

So the woman clearly knows a thing or two when it comes to caring for sensitive skin. So I was excited to try the cleanser after receiving complimentary samples.

Keep reading for my honest review of Motif Abundance Plumping Phytoceramide Cleanser and how it can help you too.

The Ingredients

The Abundance Cleanser is a non-foaming daily cream cleanser developed by a board-certified dermatologist, Indy Chabra, MD, PhD. But I’m still impressed by how rich the formula is.

The most notable ingredients in Abundance Cleanser are pineapple ceramides. In case you haven’t heard, ceramides strengthen the skin barrier function and help treat and prevent dryness. Other moisture boosters included in the product are grape seed oil and hyaluronic acid.

The cleanser also contains a blend of anti-inflammatory and brightening ingredients such as licorice extract, rice bran extract, niacinamide (vitamin B3), and orchid extract (1). Coincidentally, these antioxidant-rich extracts also have anti-aging benefits.

Moreover, Abundance Cleanser doubles as a face mask. And that’s not just a weak ‘suggestion’. Because the formula contains clay to minimize oil and detoxify the skin, and pineapple-derived enzymes for the gentlest exfoliation (2).

And they actually peppered in fibers from the luffa fruit. So there’s not really a physical exfoliation that might scratch your skin but more like nourishing plant extracts to rub your skin.

The Texture

Unlike other cream cleansers I’ve used, Abundance Cleanser has a rich, firm consistency. I can feel the presence of kaolin clay but it doesn’t overpower the moisturizing formula.

The luffa particles are soft and because they’re sparsely formulated into the cleanser, the consistency doesn’t feel gritty or scrubby.

The creamy cleanser spreads out nicely and easily. And I can actually feel how moisturizing it’s going to be just by feeling the texture.

The Scent

Abundance Cleanser is artificial fragrance-free. But it does have a beautiful, earthy scent which is a treat for the senses. So if your skin is sensitive to fragrance, you’ve got nothing to worry about here.

On a side note, I love skincare that makes you feel good. People raise eyebrows when they hear me enjoying French skincare with a major feel-good aspect.

So what? Just because we have sensitive skin, are we supposed to settle with dull, boring products? So I appreciate that Motif just owns it and straight-up calls it scientific and sensorial skincare.

The Packaging

Well, it doesn’t hurt to have your skincare products work like Insta-worthy bathroom decor, does it? Abundance Cleanser has luxurious packaging with an expensive feel. The recyclable packaging is made of 40% post-consumer-recycled materials (PCR) and the brand is certified for 1% for the Planet.

The Results

Motif Abundance Cleanser Before and After

During rinse-off is usually when my rosacea reveals itself in its full glory. But after washing away the Abundance Cleanser, I noticed that my skin looked as if I washed away a moisturizing face mask. There was no sign of irritation or redness. In fact, the cleanser calmed my redness.

And I noticed that my skin felt incredibly soft, plump, and velvety. It effectively cleaned up my skin, removed any trace of oil or sweat, balanced my complexion, and did not even leave a heavy feel afterward.

The product claims it only removes light makeup. And it delivers on that front. I only had to wipe away traces of mascara under my eyes and that’s it.

So I later decided to use it as a face mask too. Because it packs clay and pineapple enzymes, I wanted to see if it could help with flakiness. So I applied a thick layer and left it on for about 20 minutes.

I don’t know if it was because of the longer exposure to the ingredients but after washing it away, my skin looked noticeably calmer and visibly smoother.

I loved that it helped get rid of flakiness, especially around my nose and my eyebrows. It was like a gentle clay mask that freshened up my complexion. My skin looked brighter and it legit gave me an even skin tone.

The Verdict

Motif Abundance Cleanser Review

Because of my sensitive skin, I gradually introduced the product into my routine. And after ensuring my skin loves it, I replaced my morning face wash with Motif Abundance Cleanser. It quickly became my favorite cleanser for my sensitive skin and my favorite face mask to refresh and renew, practically replacing two of my products and streamlining my routine. It’s not only gentle on my rosacea skin but also does something about it. So if you’re on the lookout for a cleanser that doesn’t take away from your skin but replenishes and restores it, Motif Abundance Cleanser is going to be the workhorse for your skin barrier.

Who It Is For

You guys, I only have one skin type. So I can only speak for myself. But the Abundance Cleanser is formulated for all skin types. So I didn’t want to keep it only in the family and I let my little circle in on it too. Here’s what they think in case your skin type is similar to theirs.

Motif Abundance Plumping Phytoceramide Cleanser Review - Feyza Eroglu

“I have normal to dry skin. I usually go for cream cleansers only in the winter. But I can use this cleanser in summer too because it doesn’t leave any oily/creamy residue on my skin. It literally feels like I’m moisturizing my face while I’m cleansing it.”

Motif Abundance Plumping Phytoceramide Cleanser Review - Seda Cam

“I have oily, acne-prone skin. I use a foaming cleanser twice a day. I loved using this as a face mask because it’s not aggressive like other clay-infused masks that overdry my skin. It removed excess oil but it didn’t strip my skin. It’s like a facial in a bottle and I’m keeping this.”

How To Use Motif Abundance Cleanser

This is a multi-tasking goodie with amazing active ingredients. So here’s how to properly use the Abundance Cleanser to get the most out of it. Remember that cream cleansers are not supposed to remove makeup, especially heavy eye makeup. So when you’re using this cleanser in the evening, double cleanse.

  • Use a balm/oil cleanser or micellar water to get rid of the makeup first
  • Then squeeze out a bit of product and massage the cleanser into your skin
  • Let the luffa particles rub and nourish your skin
  • Do this for 30-60 seconds to let the good stuff stay on the skin and do their magic
  • Rinse it well with water
  • Finish your skincare routine

When you’re using the Abundance Cleanser as a face mask, make sure you do it on clean skin. That’s when the ingredients will penetrate and work better.

I leave it on for as long as 20 minutes. As a mask, it dries down but it doesn’t harden a lot to the point that it becomes ashy or messy as a typical clay mask would do.

So there’s no mask particle falling out on your shirt creating a mess. To remove the mask, rinse it with lukewarm water and enjoy smooth, plump, and radiant skin.
