There has never been a time when we feel like we’re done with self-care and maintenance. There’s always some hair on some part of the body waiting to be plucked or some dry area that’s in desperate need of moisture or rough and flaky feet as if you’ve been walking barefoot on cement. Those areas that don’t get to enjoy primary care are usually perfect for experimenting with at-home beauty treatments when you’ve got some time to kill.

Plus, DIY or not-so-DIY, at-home beauty treatments are therapeutic and even acts of self-compassion. They help you relax, feel better about yourself, and recharge. Not sure where to start? We’ve got some fun at-home beauty activity ideas!

Whether you’ve been lazy with skincare care or you want to up your self-maintenance game or you’re simply bored, below are the best DIY beauty treatments to try at home for skincare, haircare, body care, and self-care.

First things first! Put on some satin PJs or a silk robe to lift yourself up and feel better. Put on some music and light some candles. Create the ambiance for an at-home spa day.

1. Do an At-Home Steam Facial

We all love a good extraction session. Get yourself a bowl of hot water or fire up that expensive face steam to open up the pores and push out those blackheads. Then go ahead and pamper yourself with an at-home facial. You can try at-home sets that come with a ready-made skin care regimen.

2. Use Color Hair Spray

Thinning hair or a receding hairline can make you feel self-conscious. It’s a whole thing where a lot of factors are involved to find the solution. However, color sprays are perfect for concealing those thin areas to give the illusion of voluminous hair. Spray away to conceal the receding hairline. You can also DIY this. Use a small eye makeup brush and dab it into an eyeshadow that’s similar to your hair color. Then slowly fill in sparse areas.

3. Try Colorful Masks

Face masks with some sort of colorful clay or even glitter ones are fun to do and Insta-worthy. They cheer up your mood and your feed.

4. Give Yourself a Pedicure

If you don’t have the necessary tools at your disposal, you may not find this too appealing. However, even soaking your feet in warm water while watching the reruns of your favorite TV show or listening to an inspiring podcast will help you relax.

5. Try Faux Lashes

Faux lashes can give the illusion of fluttery lashes just like that. In my opinion, though, individual lashes look more natural and they’re not as messy as full lashes may be. Try adding 2-3 individual lashes starting from the outer lashes. You’ll see that your eyes look bigger and your gaze is flirtier.

6. Give Yourself a Blowout

It takes time to do that in the morning. At the same time, practice makes perfect. Try perfecting your at-home blowout. Section your hair. And try blowing out each section from inside out and the other way around. That’s how you get volume!

7. Tone Up with Beauty Tools

Crystals are therapeutic. And using crystal beauty tools is a way to incorporate them into your daily life. Jade rolling with a nice-smelling face oil is the easiest way to relax the facial muscles and work your products into the skin. Gua Sha tools come with an attitude. Once you start gliding the tool on your face, you turn into one of those models on QVCtv looking sleek and feeling exemplary. Plus, when has a facial massage ever been depressing?

8. Remove Arm Hair

If you don’t usually wax/shave/laser your arm hair, you’re going to love the feeling. Get rid of the hair on the lower and upper arm and moisturize!

9. Dry Brush

Dry brushing keeps your skin smooth and flake-free. It also boosts circulation and may help with lymph drainage. Use a dry body brush to get rid of dead skin cells and flaky skin. Moisturize all over and enjoy smooth and glowing skin.

10. Try Red Lips

It can be intimidating to step out of your comfort zone and try a different makeup look. Even though you keep splurging on fancy makeup products, you end up doing the same thing over and over again. But there’s one makeup look that’s guaranteed to look good on everyone! And that’s the bold lip look. You do your base with a full-coverage foundation. You define the lashes with jet-black mascara. And then you apply red lipstick. You can also try burgundy or the like. The idea is to do a smooth base but go very bold with the lips.

11. Try Warming/Cooling Masks

There are self-heating face masks that heat up once you start rubbing them in. These are perfect for pore cleansing and decongestion. Cooling masks, on the other hand, tighten the skin and reduce the appearance of pores.

12. Use Up Your Sheet Mask

Sheet masks work fast. But you can make them work better. And cheap or expensive, we’ve all got some lying around in the house somewhere. Put one on and really use it up until it’s bone dry. Use a Jade roller to work it in, and apply the remaining serum to your hands.

13. Color Your Nails

I’m a nail-biter. So it’s always been a struggle for me to let my nails grow so that I can try some nail art. My manicure is never on fleek and I can never make a sound when I tap my nails on my desk. But one thing I do helps me draw the attention away from my bitten nails. And that is using red nail polish. It just makes your nails look better, it simply does.

14. Use Your Curling Iron

Curling irons, as easy as they seem, are actually really tricky. I don’t know about you but something’s off with the way the curls come out. Curling in the wrong direction, sectioning your hair the wrong way -these things require practice! Now that you have some time to kill, try perfecting those beachy waves.

15. Try a Foot Mask

At-home beauty treatments aren’t about your facial skincare anymore. Hello? Butt masking? If you think this is extra, you obviously haven’t heard about boob masks or body masks. Regardless, foot masks soften the feet and moisturize the seemingly impossible skin in the area. Your nail polish looks cleaner and sleeker.

16. Try a Hair Mask

Haircare, if we’re being honest, is the most daunting of all self-care. You can see quicker results when you take care of your facial skin or the skin on your body. But caring for hair requires patience and it takes time to see the results. However, hair masks do offer some quick solutions like softening your hair or making it look shinier. Try a moisturizing hair mask to nourish and soften those strands. If you don’t have a hair mask at your disposal, try these DIY hair masks to revive dry hair.

17. Try a Body Scrub

Scrubs can be too irritating for the face. But they’re great for the body. And a full-body scrub makes an incredibly satisfying at-home beauty treatment. Try a coffee scrub or a sugar scrub or body peels to gently exfoliate your body.

18. Do a Full Glam

When all else fails, a full-blown glam with smokey eyes, full coverage makeup, and bold lips is the quickest way to get a mood boost. Play with your makeup. Use that contour palette and master the art of sculpting.

19. Remove Peach Fuzz

Dermaplaning is a great way to get rid of unwanted hair on the face and achieve super soft and smooth skin. Plus, it gives you a more put-together look. It also helps your foundation coverage and increases the absorption of your skincare products. Try this beauty treatment if you’re dealing with dullness.

20. Tint Your Eyebrows

Tinted brows give the illusion of fluffy eyebrows. And defined brows can seriously up your makeup game. Use an at-home kit to tint your brows to make them look fuller and thicker. You can also experiment by filling in your brows with an eyebrow pen. If that’s not going to work either, then use an angled brush and dip it into an eyeshadow to fill them in. Try different shapes and see if you need any tweezing or plucking in that area. Maybe your arch needs some definition, who knows?

21. Exfoliate

Chemical exfoliation decongests the skin, brightens the complexion, and smoothes the skin texture. And exfoliation is actually a lot of fun these days. They don’t just contain alpha or beta hydroxy acids. We have green tea peels and even resveratrol peels! You can try exfoliating face masks, or use a peel pad, or a liquid peel to improve your appearance and increase your skin’s radiance.

22. Self Tan

Use a mess-free spray tan to warm up your skin tone. A nice tan, for some reason, increases self-confidence. It also helps your outfit, your manicure, and your smile. Plus, think of all the different looks you can try with your bronzer now that you have a tan.

23. Whiten Your Teeth

If you’ve never tried this before, you’re more likely to get faster results. Whitening pens offer an easy way to go a few shades lighter and brighten your smile. And a brighter smile simply makes you smile more.

24. Try a LED Mask

LED masks can be utilized for several skin issues. You can try anti-aging skincare devices or other LED masks for treating inflammatory acne. They’re like mess-free skincare. You turn on the device and let it do its work while you scroll down your feed.

25. Fill in Wrinkles

Use silicone patches to plump up wrinkles instantly. They’re fun to do and they work fast. Use an under-eye patch to plump up fine lines around the eyes. You can also try silicone patches for smile lines, which are more difficult to deal with. But wrinkle patches work great for those lines.

26. Multi Mask

Multi-Masking

Multi masking is the most fun way of masking! And it’s an excellent at-home beauty treatment to try especially when you have samples. You apply different face masks on different areas of the face. For example, you put on gel patches on the eye area, apply a peel-off mask on the nose, a clay mask on the cheeks, and a cream mask on the rest of the face. And the result is a colorful face that your Insta filter does not recognize.

27. Organize Your Beauty Cabinet

This is my personal favorite. This is absolutely one of the best at-home beauty treatments you can try when you’re bored. Get all your skincare and makeup products together. Organize your beauty products by using a cute organizer or repurpose your old Sephora boxes. Go through your stash and see if there’s something in there you haven’t been using. Make sure you use them up before they expire. Is there anything you don’t like to use any more? Consider repurposing your skincare products or gifting them. Open up some space in your beauty cabinet. Wash your makeup brushes. If there’s a moisturizer you don’t like to use anymore, put it in the bathroom and use it up as a body lotion later on. If there are any empties, put them aside and see if you can exchange them in-store for deluxe samples.
